Saint of the Day widget for iPhone

MySavior’s Saint of the Day widget puts a saint or feast on your iPhone Home Screen or Lock Screen for each of the 366 days of the year, and switches to the next one at midnight. Tap it to read that saint’s story in the app.

On October 8, 2026 it shows Saint Pelagia. Most days are saints; the others are Blesseds, popes and feasts such as the Annunciation and All Saints.

What the widget shows in each size

The Saint of the Day widget comes in one Home Screen size and two Lock Screen sizes. There is no medium or circular version. Whichever size you pick, a tap opens today’s saint in the app.

How it works

A saint each day, the story a tap away

The day-to-saint list lives inside the app, so the widget always has a name to show, even offline. The portrait and the biography come from Wikipedia the first time a saint appears, and are kept on your iPhone after that.

How to add the Saint of the Day widget

Install MySavior and open it once, so that iOS lists its widgets. Then:

On the Home Screen

  1. Touch and hold an empty area of the Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
  2. Tap Edit in the top corner, then Add Widget.
  3. Search for MySavior, swipe to Saint of the Day and tap Add Widget.
  4. Drag the widget where you want it, then tap Done.

On the Lock Screen

  1. Touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, then choose Lock Screen.
  2. Tap the widget area below the time. For the one-line version, tap the date above the time instead.
  3. Choose MySavior in the list, then Saint of the Day.
  4. Close the widget panel and tap Done.

For more detail, see the guides to adding a widget to the Home Screen and to the Lock Screen.

If MySavior is missing from the list, open the app once more and try again.

Where the saints come from

A calendar that loosely follows the General Roman Calendar

The day-to-saint list is built into the app and stays the same every year. It loosely follows the General Roman Calendar of the Catholic Church: where that calendar has a saint or feast on a date, the app usually shows it, as with Saint Francis of Assisi (October 4). A few days use dates from the United States, such as Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (January 4), and days with no celebration in the Roman calendar carry other saints, Blesseds and popes, such as Saint Piran (March 5).

  • No moveable feasts. Each entry is tied to a month and day, so Easter, Pentecost and the other moveable feasts are not in it. The Christian Countdown widget counts down to those.
  • A leap-day saint. Saint Oswald of Worcester (February 29) appears only in leap years; the next is 2028.
  • A few repeats. Two saints appear on two days, and a few feasts share one Wikipedia article, so the same biography shows on both days.

It is a devotional companion, not an official liturgical calendar, so your country or diocese may keep some saints on other days. Every day is listed with its Wikipedia article in the Saint of the Day calendar, which also explains how the days are chosen.

Questions and answers

When does the Saint of the Day widget change?

At midnight, in your iPhone’s time zone. The widget moves to the next day’s saint by itself, without you opening the app, and each date shows the same saint every year. There is one saint or feast for each of the 366 days, February 29 included.

Can I choose which saint the widget shows?

No. It always shows the saint for today’s date and has no options to edit. To read about other saints, open the app’s Saints of the Day library, which lists every day of the year by month.

Is it a Catholic saint widget?

Largely, yes. Its calendar loosely follows the General Roman Calendar of the Catholic Church, with some United States dates, and it includes Blesseds, popes and feasts of Mary. Any Christian can use it, and MySavior’s other widgets are written for Christians of every tradition (see Catholic widgets).

Where do the saint biographies come from?

From the English Wikipedia article chosen for each day. The app shows the opening paragraphs, adds birth and death dates from Wikidata when they are known, and credits Wikipedia under the CC BY-SA license. A biography downloads the first time its saint comes up, then stays on your iPhone, so you can read it again offline.

Which sizes does the Saint of the Day widget come in?

Three: small on the Home Screen, and rectangular and inline on the Lock Screen. It needs an iPhone with iOS 18.6 or later.
