Christian Countdown widget

Count down to Christmas on your iPhone

MySavior's Christian Countdown widget counts the days to Christmas on the Home Screen and the Lock Screen. It works out the date by itself every year, and the number goes down by one at midnight in your iPhone's time zone.

What the widget shows

Counts as of October 8, 2026
Widget sizeWhat it shows
Home Screen, smallThe number of days in large type, with “days until Christmas” under it, over the Christmas photo
Lock Screen, rectangular“Christmas” and, below it, “is in 78 days”
Lock Screen, circular“78d” above “Christmas”
Lock Screen, inline“Christmas · 78 days” above the clock

On the last two days the small widget drops the number: it reads “Christmas is tomorrow”, then “Christmas is today”. The day after, a widget pinned to Christmas starts again from 364 days, the count to Saturday, December 25, 2027.

On Auto, the widget does not stop at Christmas: it moves on to Epiphany, Wednesday, January 6, 2027.

How to set it up

  1. Install MySavior and open it once.
  2. Home Screen: touch and hold an empty area until the apps jiggle, tap Edit, then Add Widget. Search for MySavior and choose Christian Countdown.
  3. Pick Christmas: touch and hold the new widget, tap Edit Widget and set Event to Christmas. Leave it on “Auto — nearest feast” if you would rather follow whichever switched-on feast comes next (the 16 major ones are on by default).
  4. Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, then Lock Screen. Tap the area below the time (or the date above it, for the one-line version), add Christian Countdown, then tap the widget to set its Event.
  5. Add more: each countdown widget keeps its own Event, so you can follow several feasts at once.

Step by step: adding a widget to the Lock Screen and adding one to the Home Screen. Every size and all 30 feasts: the Christian Countdown widget page.

Your design

Make the Christmas countdown look the way you want

Out of the box, the Christmas countdown uses the app's own Christmas photo theme: a photo by Robert Hampshire (Unsplash) with the number set in Palatino Bold. Each of the 30 feasts has a photo theme of its own, so a widget on Auto changes its look as it moves from feast to feast. In the app's Widget Studio, swipe to the countdown page to:

  • Use the liturgical colors instead of the photo: for Christmas, a gradient from deep green to red.
  • Choose any Unsplash photo; the search opens on “nativity” for Christmas. Once you have picked a photo, you can also set how much it is darkened behind the text.
  • Style the text with any of the app's 82 fonts, and set its color, size, alignment, bold or italic.
  • Keep one text style for every feast, or give each feast its own.

The photo, colors and fonts apply to the Home Screen widget. The Lock Screen sizes use the Lock Screen's own font and tint, like every Lock Screen widget.

The road to Christmas in the countdown

These are the countdown's feasts around Christmas 2026. On Auto, the widget follows the nearest one that is switched on, and the last column shows which are on by default. For the start of the season, see when Advent begins.

Christmas Day 2026 to 2035

Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas, so it begins between November 27 and December 3 and lasts from 22 to 28 days. When Christmas falls on a Sunday, Advent is at its longest.

Some Orthodox churches, such as the Russian and Serbian churches, still follow the Julian calendar and celebrate Christmas on January 7. The MySavior countdown counts to December 25.

Questions and answers

What day of the week is Christmas 2026?

Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday (December 25, 2026). In 2027, December 25 is a Saturday.

How do I put a Christmas countdown on my iPhone Lock Screen?

Install MySavior and open it once. Touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, then Lock Screen, and add the Christian Countdown widget below the time or in the date line above it. Tap the widget and set Event to Christmas. It shows the feast name and the number of days left.

Does the Christmas countdown update by itself?

Yes. The number goes down by one at midnight in your iPhone’s time zone, without opening the app. On December 24 it reads “Christmas is tomorrow” and on December 25 “Christmas is today”. The next day, a widget pinned to Christmas starts counting to the following Christmas.

Can I count down to Advent as well?

Yes. Advent is one of the 30 feasts in the countdown: in 2026 the First Sunday of Advent is Sunday, November 29, 2026. Add a second Christian Countdown widget and set its Event to Advent, or leave a widget on Auto, which follows Advent, the Immaculate Conception and Christmas in turn.

Can I change how the Christmas countdown looks?

Yes. It starts with the app’s own Christmas photo. In the app you can switch to the feast’s liturgical colors or choose any Unsplash photo, and change the font (82 to choose from), color, size and alignment of the text.
